Applications day Notes for October 8

Main points

Today’s class involved brief discussions of the first papers. The assignment was to show how two of the thinkers we read would analyze a contemporary social or political topic.

Presentations

The paper ideas were all inventive. Some of them brought out aspects of the readings that I, for one, hadn’t considered. Well done!

More importantly, I was impressed by how you were able to present your ideas concisely, leaving out details to identify the main points that would be useful for discussion. That’s not easy to do and it usually requires a lot of practice. However, I thought that everyone who spoke did a very good job of being selective and focused in what they told the group. Well done!
